The Colombian Under-20 striker arrives from Finish side HJK Helsinki, where he boasted an impressive scoring record, and given he’s a former Finland international, Johansson was all too aware of Morelos’s talents.
The 20-year-old checked into Glasgow officially yesterday, and speaking via the Rangers website, Caixinha explained: “JJ, like all the assistants, are people who need to have all the confidence and the trust from myself.
“All the time that JJ or the others present something to me, I need to have a look at it and I need to trust and believe in all of them.
“He had a very important role in all of this.
“He identified the player, he followed the player, he tracked the player and he is Finnish so he has many contacts back there, so he knows everything about him.”
Johansson himself knows what it takes to be a prolific striker at Ibrox, given his successful stint at the club as a player back between 1997-2000, and it shows just how open to suggestions Caixinha is in his role as manager.
But should it fill Gers fans with optimism that Morelos comes with Johansson’s backing? Should that make his adjustment to Scottish football any easier?
And what other areas of the squad does Caixinha and his team need to address next?
What do you think?
