Video: Jon Walters Scores Absolute Cracker For Republic of Ireland

Stoke City striker Jon Walters resisted the urge of a longer summer break to play for the Republic of Ireland tonight and proceeded to score an absolute cracker.

The 33-year-old was deployed up-front by Martin O’Neill in a friendly against a second-string Uruguay side at the Aviva Stadium, ahead of next weekend’s vital World Cup qualifier against Austria in Dublin.

Clearly in the autumn of his career, and after playing throughout a long, hard season, Walters could’ve maybe done with an extra few days on a deckchair, but he once again showed his worth to the ROI cause:

Not a bad finish at all, eh? It’s just a shame that it wasn’t scored on a bigger stage in-front of more fans!

That’s the 13th international goal of his career but it’s definitely got to be one of, if not the, best, eh?

What do you think of the strike? And the never-ending football season in general?
