Video: Jonny Hayes Explains How Aftershave Helped Brendan Rodgers Win Him Over

Jonny Hayes is officially a Celtic player, and the Republic of Ireland international has been explaining how deep his relationship with Brendan Rodgers runs.

The winger, who turns 30 next month, initially met Rodgers as a 16-year-old on trial at Reading and was won over by the coach’s charm and personal touches.

Specifically, Hayes has recalled how he mentioned to Rodgers how he liked his aftershave, and was surprised to find the Northern Irishman had bought Hayes his own very bottle a short time later:

Not a bad anecdote, eh?

Hayes has put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal at Parkhead after an impressive stint at Aberdeen, but it’s likely he won’t be the last name to arrive Celtic during the summer window.

Is it little touches like that which separates good managers from great managers?

And how important an addition will Hayes be to the Celtic ranks?
