England finally got their under-21 European championship campaign off and running this afternoon after Southampton winger Nathan Redmond scored in spectacular style.
Aidy Boothroyd’s men went into today’s clash with Slovakia knowing they had to win to stand any real chance of making the semi-finals, following their 0-0 draw with Sweden in the opening game.
And their hopes suffered a blow when Martin Chrien fired Slovakia in-front after just 23 minutes.
But England’s Under-21s have a lot of talent in their ranks, and once Swansea centre-back Alfie Mawson had equalised it looked inevitable that they’d get a winner.
Step forward, Nathan Redmond.
After a delicious cross-field pass from club-mate James Ward-Prowse, Redmond took the ball cleverly inside before leathering it past the helpless goalkeeper.

He’s been impressing for a good few years now, and with Gareth Southgate in attendance this evening, you can only assume Redmond isn’t far off a senior call-up.
Is he good enough for a full cap?
