Hibs fans are very excited after Blackburn Rovers confirmed Anthony Stokes has been released.
The Irish striker only signed for the English outfit last summer, but made just 12 appearances throughout last campaign as Rovers were relegated to League One.
Tony Mowbray spoke in May about wanting to keep his contracted players, but Stokes has now been released just a year into his three-year contract at the club.
He’s been linked with Hibs all throughout this summer and now Easter Road fans will have more reason to believe that after he went on the market.
Blackburn confirmed the news this afternoon:

As you’d expect, that news has been picked up by Hibs fans and they’ve shown their excitement on Twitter:
Hibs fans will now desperately hoping their club can do a deal to bring Stokes back to the club for a third time.
His first spell came between 2009 and 2011 as he scored 24 goals in 48 appearances for the club before moving on to Celtic.
Stokes returned to Hibs in their Scottish Cup-winning season of 2015/16 on a loan deal, but left for Blackburn at the end of that.
At 28, he may now see Easter Road as the best place for him to play his best football.
