Brendan Rodgers Confirms Emilio Izaguirre Exit is on the Cards

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Emilio Izaguirre’s Celtic exit is on the cards.

The Hoops manager spoke to the media this afternoon ahead of his side’s Champions League qualifying second round second leg match against Linfield tomorrow night.

While many will have expected Rodgers to have something to say about UEFA charging Leigh Griffiths after he tied a scraf around the goal post following the 2-0 win for the Scots in Belfast last week, it was actually his update on Izaguirre which might be most interesting.

Izaguirre played second fiddle to Kieran Tierney throughout the whole of last season and is very unlikely to dislodge the hugely popular Scottish youngster from the left back position.

So links with a move away are no surprise and Rodgers has confirmed the Honduran could be on his way out of the club seven years after moving to Glasgow.

Speaking this afternoon, Rodgers said:

Despite spending the majority of his time on the bench, Izaguirre is still a popular man with the Celtic fans and his exit would no doubt be met with disappointment by the fans.

But Celtic signed Jonny Hayes in the summer and have Calvin Miller who can both offer support for Tierney moving forward without Izaguirre.
