The Colombian playmaker struggled to make any sort of impact for Real Madrid last term so it’s no surprise he’s decided to move away this summer.
According to multiple sources over the last few months, both United and Chelsea were in pole position to sign the number 10 ahead of the new campaign.
Take this Metro story for example, which cited French sources to say Manchester United were deep into talks with Rodriguez about his transfer.
Then there was this Sun story which said reports in Spain had Alvaro Morata AND Rodriguez being offered to Chelsea.
Just days ago it seemed United and Chelsea were the only teams keen to get the Colombian international – but that’s turned out to be completely wrong after Bayern announced his signing on a two-year loan deal:

If United and Chelsea were interested in Rodriguez, this signing news will be seen as a setback as they kick off their pre-season.
It’ll be particularly difficult for Chelsea given they’ve already missed out on Romelu Lukaku after appearing to be interested in him this window.
The Belgian striker was linked with a return to Stamford Bridge, but is now a United player after the Old Trafford club completed a £75million deal for him yesterday.
