Rangers suffered what is being dubbed as the worst result in Scottish football history last night as they crashed out of the Europa League at the first hurdle.
The Ibrox club made their long-anticipated return to the European stage when they took on Progres Niederkorn of Luxembourg last week at Ibrox.
And a Kenny Miller goal looked to be enough to seal the Gers’ place in the second qualifying round where they would have likely taken on AEL Limassol of Cyprus.
However, a shock 2-0 defeat to the Luxembourgian minnows saw Pedro Caixinha‘s men suffer a humiliating blow in their hopes for the season ahead.
Rangers players and fans will still be suffering today as they face a full month without any scheduled fixtures.
But there is no rest as former pros and pundits line up to take a dig at the Premiership side.
Ex-Gers midfielder Alex Rae is the latest player to come out and slam last night’s results, as he stated that Caixinha’s new signings are in for a rude awakening.
Speaking to BBC Scotland, Rae said: “It’s an embarrassing result, given the investment.
“I have never seen them lose to a team of this calibre. It would have to be up there with one of their worst performances and results in Europe. I think everybody is in shock.
“The way Scottish football is going, we’re going to be a laughing stock.
“I think they [the new signings] will all be shell-shocked.
“It will be a rude awakening for a lot of them because for the next 24-48 hours the media will go to town on them because it is as bad a result and performance as you can get.
“So they will have to get their tin helmets on.”
