With Greg Stewart handing Aberdeen a crucial opener just minutes previously, Gary Mackay-Steven stepped up to secure a 2-0 victory for the Dons against Siroki Brijeg.
Stewart was able to lose his marker down the right-hand side before coolly beating Siroki Brijeg keeper Luka Bilobrk with a low shot that found the bottom corner.
And while the 27-year-old, who is on loan at Pittodrie from Premier League side Burnley, will earn major plaudits for his goal, Mackay-Steven may have just surpassed it.
Mackay-Steven joined Derek McInnes’ side from Celtic earlier this summer in a bid to restart his career, which was beginning to stagnate on the sidelines at Celtic Park.
And it appears the winger’s decision to move north has immediately paid off, as he found Ryan Christie’s inch-perfect pass, before blasting the ball into Bilobrk’s net.
The team from Bosnia and Herzegovina were unable to mount a serious comeback, securing an Aberdeen result that sees them progress into the next round of Europa League qualifiers.
Aberdeen will play either Apollon Limassol of Cyprus or Moldova’s Zaria Balti next.
