But, remarkably, it emerged on Thursday that Jose Mourinho and Manchester United were back in the race for the 24-year-old, and it looks almost certain that he’ll be a United player before too long.
The club tweeted on Saturday that they’d agreed a fee for Lukaku with Everton, and in this interview with ESPN, the imposing striker explains exactly why he’s so excited about working with Jose Mourinho again:
So many people thought Lukaku would snub Mourinho after the Portuguese sold him whilst Chelsea boss in 2014, but it turns out there’s no bad blood between the pair at all.
What do you you make of his explanation? And how successful will Lukaku be at Old Trafford?
