Celtic Fans Hijack Shaun Maloney’s Return With Pleas to Sign Patrick Roberts

Celtic confirmed Shaun Maloney is back at Parkhead as a development coach this afternoon, however, it’s clearly not the ‘return’ Hoops fans are praying for.

Yes, as the club confirmed Maloney’s new role following his retirement on Twitter, Celtic fans immediately inundated the post with pleas to re-sign Patrick Roberts.

Maloney spent 10 years as a Celtic player over two spells, winning five league titles and as many Scottish Cups.

Aberdeen had been linked with a move for the midfielder earlier in the transfer window, however, Dons boss Derek McInnes eventually conceded that Maloney was set on retirement.

And while the 34-year-old will be a great example for Celtic’s young players – as someone who’s been there and done it – all the club’s supporters really want is to see Roberts back in Glasgow.

The Englishman spent the last two seasons on loan at Parkhead and formed an immediate bond with fans due to his impressive performances:

Will Roberts continue to make an impact if he signs on a permanent basis, let us know your thoughts!
