Jon Daly Says ‘Disgraceful’ Brendan Rodgers Comments About Hearts Were ‘Unacceptable’

Jon Daly insists Brendan Rodgers‘ comments about Hearts were ‘disgraceful’ and ‘unacceptable’.

The Irishman took charge of Hearts against Celtic today in his first game since replacing Ian Cathro on an interim basis.

And after seeing his side beaten 4-1 by a rampant Hoops team, Daly turned some of his attention to rival manager Rodgers, who was critical of Hearts in his press conference yesterday.

When asked about the sacking of Cathro, Rodgers told of his confusion at the Hearts set-up and the empathy he felt towards the young manager.

But Daly obviously doesn’t agree with that – and had a stinging response for Rodgers when asked about it post-match:

He added in that BBC Scotland interview that Rodgers’ comments were ‘unacceptable’.

You can hear Daly’s criticism of Rodgers in full here:

But Rodgers did defend himself when told of Daly’s strong reaction after the game. He said:

“I stand by it 150%. I was purely asked a question in relation to the operation, but it’s no problem.

“I thought Jon organised the team well today, they were good, they were compact and my feeling was towards the support for young Ian Cathro who I felt was dealt harshly with but I’ve got no issue, there’s no problem. I hope Jon goes on to get the job.

“I’ll always be open and say what I feel so that doesn’t change.”

That’s a pretty calm response from Rodgers, but he did appear to have a little dig at Daly when asked about criticising other managers’ way of working, saying: “Yeah, well he hasn’t become a manager yet so wait until he becomes a manager and he’ll know the rules of the game then.”
