The Irishman joined the Scottish champions from Aberdeen in June after a brilliant season for the Dons last term.
He reunited with Brendan Rodgers following the pair’s time together at Reading earlier on in their careers and has made eight appearances for his new club since.
But Patrick Roberts’ return to the club this week looks like it’ll make Hayes’ aim to play more a lot more difficult.
And apparently Cardiff are keen to sign him on loan IF Celtic don’t see a short-term future for him.
That’s the story from teamtalk.com anyway, but they’ve now followed that up with quotes from Hayes about him being unaware of any interest from the Bluebirds.
After being asked about it while on international duty, Hayes, per teamtalk.com, said: “No, not that I know of, anyway.
“To be honest with you, you just see these sort of things on social media crop up now and again, but nothing that I know of, anyway.
“It was actually one of my pals sent me a screenshot of something or other and he said, ‘Any truth in that?’.
“As far as I’m aware there’s none, anyway, so I’m not exactly sure where it came from.”
So it looks like Hayes won’t be going anywhere before the deadline slams shut tomorrow night.
That would make sense too, considering the Irishman has had very little time to prove himself since signing from the Dons.
He was a standout for Derek McInnes’ men last season, carrying on his very impressive form from previous campaigns.
And that should lead to him getting a chance in the Celtic team, even if Roberts and other wide options are at the club.
