Patrick Roberts’ First Interview Since Returning to Celtic: “I’m Thankful to be Finally Here”

Patrick Roberts has given his first interview since re-signing for Celtic, and has admitted he’s delighted to be back in Glasgow.

The Manchester City winger has been strongly linked with a second stint in Glasgow following his hugely successful loan spell at the club last season but negotiations between the two clubs have taken the best part of several months.

But earlier tonight, the Hoops confirmed Roberts’ return on their official Twitter account – leaving fans everywhere in fits of delight.

Roberts has already been speaking to Celtic’s in-house television channel Celtic TV, via the club’s website, and he seems genuinely overjoyed to be a part of Brendan Rodgers’ squad once again.

In full, he said: “All the support and love I have been getting has been brilliant.

“I love it here and to be back is great and I’m thankful to be finally here.

“We had a good end to the season, which obviously helped, and playing for these great fans was also a factor coming back. It’s great to be back and I can’t wait to get going again.

“The manager has been brilliant with me. He obviously wanted me back and so did Celtic.

“I had a decision to make after pre-season and when that came around Brendan Rodgers was obviously a huge factor in that. He is a top manager. I worked under him all of last year and I believe I can develop under him even more and become a better player.”

Roberts also addressed the issue of his squad number, with the England Under-20 star set to take on the epochal No.7 jersey previously worn by legends like Henrik Larsson and Jimmy Johnstone.

He added: “It’s a massive honour to wear this iconic Celtic number.

“I know some of the great players who have worn it in the past and I will wear it with pride.”

As we’ve told you throughout the day, Celtic supporters have been absolutely buzzing as news filtered through about Roberts’ return – but how does it feel now the deal is officially over the line?
