Romelu Lukaku played what is officially his first-ever competitive match for Manchester United tonight but he somehow managed to miss a gilt-edged chance for the Red Devils.
Since signing for United for around £75 million from Everton last month, the big Belgian has looked tasty in pre-season friendlies, but tonight’s European Super Cup Final against Real Madrid in Macedonia was always going to be the acid test.
In truth, United struggled to get into the game at all in the opening hour, with goals from Casemiro and Isco giving Real a 2-0 lead.
And when United were presented with a glorious opportunity to reduce the deficit, Lukaku – against all the odds – managed to fluff his lines:

Goodness me! It seems £75 million doesn’t quite get you what it used to, eh?
In Lukaku’s defence, he did eventually go on to get his goal – but does it make up for the horrendous miss?
What do you think?
