Villarreal have cancelled their plans to unveil new signing Carlos Bacca this evening, following the devastating terrorist attack in Barcelona.
It’s currently understood that 13 people have been killed and up to 50 injured after a van drove into pedestrians in the Las Ramblas district of the city.
And with the city in a state of mourning and shock following the tragic events of this afternoon, the Villarreal hierarchy have decided it would be inappropriate to “have a party”.
Club president Fernando Roig confirmed the postponement in a press conference, “From Villarreal we repudiate all terrorist acts and we stand in solidarity with all Town of Catalunya and with all the Spanish people.
“There are many families going wrong and the only thing we can do is to show solidarity.”
Roid added, “We can not have a party right now. The player has understood it and in the future there will be a presentation. It’s time to be together.”
It’s unclear when Bacca will be unveiled to the media and the club’s supporters.
However, at times like these, football and the goings on in the transfer window deservedly take a back seat.
