As we told you earlier today, Hodgson looks set to replace the outgoing Frank de Boer, who was shown the door after just four matches into his three-year contract.
Hodgson has been out of work since his disastrous reign as England boss ended with a shock defeat to Iceland during last summer’s Euro 2016 campaign.
And now Barton, who clearly isn’t a fan of Hodgson’s work, reckons Palace could be making a grave error by appointing the experienced 70-year-old coach.
Speaking during his role as pundit on talkSPORT, via the Mirror, Barton said: “He’s just got no charisma, no personality at all.
“Did you see him at the back end of that England campaign?
“He just looked like he needed to be taken out into the back garden and have someone pull the trigger on him.
“A lot of people say he’s a great fella, but I just don’t think [he’s the right fit].
“I didn’t see the Frank de Boer appointment, I thought it was a bit left field and I think if you’re them you want somebody who lifts the place up.”
Hodgson is preparing himself for something of a baptism of fire, with Southampton set to be his first game in charge next weekend, quickly followed by fixtures against Man City, Man Utd and Chelsea.
But what do you make of Barton’s comments? Is he right to lay into Hodgson so severely?
What do you think?
