After drawing their opening Champions League game with Sevilla 2-2 at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp’s men would have been hoping to bounce back with a victory in Russia.
But they were unable to get that win, allowing themselves to be frustrated by an organised Spartak team.
Fernando opened the scoring from a free-kick in the first half for the hosts before Philippe Coutinho combined with Sadio Mane to fire home an equaliser.
The rest of the game was just missed chance after missed chance for the visitors, with Sturridge one of the main culprits after he was brought on in the 70th minute.
He missed at least two clear chances to score and fans weren’t happy with his cameo appearance at full-time:
Is that too harsh on Sturridge? Or is he contributing less and less to the team now?
He’s only got one goal so far this season, but has had to battle to get minutes on the pitch with Klopp deciding to go for Roberto Firmino as striker in most games.
What’s your view – does Sturridge deserve the stick?
