Video: Patrick Roberts’ Deflected Effort Puts Celtic 2-0 Ahead in Belgium

Patrick Roberts opened his account for the season in Belgium tonight – and the strike could prove to be absolutely crucial to Celtic‘s ambitions this season.

The Hoops travelled to Brussels to take on Anderlecht knowing the result would have a major bearing on which of the two sides finished third in their section and stayed in European football after Christmas.

After a bit of a nervous start to the game, Brendan Rodgers’ side eventually grew into the contest, and an excellent team move saw Leigh Griffiths open the scoring after 38 minutes.

And their lead was extended even further just after the break when Roberts pounced on a slack pass from Anderlecht’s Leander Dendoncker, and proceeded to curl an effort towards goal with his potent left foot.

He definitely received a lot of help from Kara Mbodji’s deflection, but Celtic fans really won’t be too bothered how it went in:

Just think how crucial this strike could be come December!
