Video: Ronald Koeman Admits He Needs to Criticise Himself After Everton’s 3-0 Defeat

Everton boss Ronald Koeman has deflected blame away from his players following tonight’s 3-0 loss to Atalanta in the Europa League.

Instead, the Dutchman claimed he would have to criticise himself because “the team was not prepared” for the challenge of playing against the Serie A side.

Toffees fans took to social media to hurl blame at the ex-Southampton boss during the match and it appears pressure has only grown since the final whistle.

And with the club having spent close to £100 million on new recruits during the summer, Koeman was keen to save his stars from being torn apart following their dismal showing:

 

 

Everton had been hoping for a change of fortune against Atalanta, following last weekend’s embarrassing 3-0 loss to Tottenham at Goodison Park.

What do you make of Koeman’s strategy here, is he right to defend the players after such a poor showing?

Or is he simply trying to re-build some confidence in a team that’s shipped six goals in two games without response?
