Gordon Strachan Taking An Absolute Pounding For Scotland’s Second-Half Display

Gordon Strachan Taking An Absolute Pounding For Scotland’s Second-Half Display

Scotland let a first-half lead against Slovenia slip tonight – and it seems as though the entire Tartan Army are pointing the finger at Gordon Strachan.

In a match they had to win to make the playoffs, it all looked to be going perfectly for Scotland, who saw Leigh Griffiths fire them 1-0 ahead at half-time.

But the Slovenians came roaring back in the second-half and turned it all around, and despite a late Robert Snodgrass equaliser, the match ended 2-2 – and Strachan’s substitutions are definitely coming under the microscope.

He brought Ikechi Anya on for striker Chris Martin just after Slovenia had equalised and then waited until almost the 80th minute before bringing on Snodgrass and Steven Fletcher.

Was 12 minutes or so really enough for them to make an impact? And was Steven Fletcher really the answer?

Gordon Strachan’s contract with the SFA officially runs out after this qualification campaign – so is there any chance at all that he can stay on as manager?
