Jose Mourinho Defends His Style.. Says Defending Well isn’t a Crime

Jose Mourinho insists defending well isn’t a crime after facing more criticism for his approach with Manchester United.

The Portuguese manager led his side to a 0-0 draw with Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday before beating Benfica 1-0 in the Champions League tonight.

And United fans can’t be complaining about those results considering they’ve got four points and two clean sheets.

But Mourinho’s style was criticised by many in the aftermath of the Liverpool result and tonight wasn’t the most exciting as they ran out winners in Portugal.

Mourinho was obviously asked about that post-match and defended his style:

He said: “Sometimes I feel to be good defensively is a crime, but it’s not a crime.

“To be good defensively is one step to get results, we have nine points, we are basically one point away from qualifying and one victory away from winning the group.

“So we are fine. We are solid.”

So, that’s Mourinho’s verdict on his astuteness at setting United up to defend well.

They’ve taken nine points from their opening three games in the Champions League and, as Mourinho says, they’re very close to qualifying for the last 16 already.
