Video: Alan Hutton Admits Leaving Rangers “Didn’t Feel Right” Before Spurs Move

Ex-Rangers defender Alan Hutton has admitted he turned down the opportunity to sign for Tottenham on two occasions because he found it so difficult to leave Ibrox.

Hutton, who spent six years as a Rangers player having graduated from the club’s academy, eventually left Ibrox for the Premier League giants in 2008.

However, the 32-year-old claims it wasn’t an easy decision, describing how it “didn’t feel right” to leave the team he had supported as a boy.

Now playing for Championship side Aston Villa, Hutton made an appearance on an episode of ‘Ask Me Anything’ on the club’s official YouTube channel.

And while it gave the right-back the opportunity to talk about lining up with Gareth Bale and playing for Spanish side Mallorca, the highlight was Hutton’s comments on how difficult it was to leave Rangers:

Since leaving Scotland, Hutton spent three years at White Hart Lane, before having loan spells at Sunderland, Nottingham Forrest, Mallorca and Bolton.

The veteran defender has made eight appearances for Steve Bruce’s Villa this season.
