Ally McCoist was involved in a heated exchange with Stoke midfielder Charlie Adam tonight, during which the ex-Rangers manager claimed Darren Fletcher isn’t a top player anymore.
McCoist and Adam were both appearing on BBC Radio 5 live Sport following Gordon Strachan’s Scotland departure earlier this afternoon.
And while Adam worked under McCoist during his as an assistant spell at Ibrox, the 31-year-old more than held his own during the discussion.
Adam argued Scotland has several top players, including Celtic duo Kieran Tierney and Leigh Griffiths along with Liverpool defender Andy Robertson.
McCoist belatedly agreed with the majority of Adam’s points on those three players, however, he took exception to the idea that Fletcher remains a “top player.”

Fletcher has made over 80 appearances for Scotland during his career, having won his first cap under Berti Vogts back in 2003.
However, with the emergence of Stuart Armstrong, Callum McGregor and Barry Bannan, Fletcher had admitted he is considering his international future.
Is he still a top player though?
