Wales have taken the lead in their penultimate World Cup qualifier against Georgia tonight, with Tom Lawrence scoring his first international goal.
The 23-year-old insisted prior to the match that Wales wouldn’t be fazed in the absence of Real Madrid star Gareth Bale, after the winger was ruled out with a calf injury.
So far, it seems the front man was spot on with that prediction, as Chris Coleman’s side have created more opportunities and looked far livelier in the final third than the hosts.
The icing on the cake, however, came in the 49th minute as Lawrence’s right footed shot from outside the box found the bottom left corner.
A goal that Bale would surely have been proud of, had he been on the pitch:
Wales need a victory tonight, coupled with a win against the Republic of Ireland in their final game if they are to guarantee a spot in the play-offs.
The Dragons have won only eight of the 33 games Bale has missed since making his debut in 2006, however, with Lawrence proving himself as an effective attacking threat, those stats could be set to improve tonight.
