Scotland’s Under 21 team followed up a disappointing result for the national team by beating Latvia yesterday.

Scot Gemmill’s side were out in Liepaja over the last few days ahead of their U21 European Championship qualifier with the Latvians.

They were beaten 3-1 by England in Middlesbrough last Friday and would have been disappointed to see the senior squad miss out on a World Cup playoff place after the 2-2 draw with Slovenia on Sunday.

But the Under 21s got the country back to winning ways by beating Latvia 2-0 thanks to goals from Oliver Burke and Oli McBurnie.

The first goal came from Burke as he ran on to Lewis Morgan’s pass to fire home before McBurnie climbed high at the front post to head in Dom Thomas’ free-kick:

It’s good to see the Under 21s getting a positive result after a bad weekend for Scottish international football.

They now sit second in their qualifying group behind a strong England team, but you’d fancy them to put a fight and grab a playoff place.
