Following Ronald Koeman’s sacking earlier this week, caretaker manager David Unsworth knew anything short of victory at Leicester City’s King Power Stadium could well see the Merseyside club languishing in the relegation zone for another week.
And, despite a decent start, that’s exactly where they found themselves at full-time, with Leicester running out comfortable 2-0 winners.
Rooney rejoined his boyhood club during the summer, and has probably been one of Everton’s better players this season.
But that isn’t saying much, with the club’s squad badly under-performing so far, and it seems as though Rooney is the player taking the fall for their latest defeat:
Wayne Rooney absolutely crap. Everton wasted money on him. shouldn't get the minimum wage. Whoever bought him should be sacked. Or was he?

We signed Rooney for sentimental reasons, slows everything down, he'll never be dropped just like he wasnt for England

Rooney is laid £150k a week, I expect a little more than what he’s been doing the last few games. He’s slow, Siggy has to take his place

Wayne Rooney – fuck off back to the old people’s home, it’s the only place you are wanted

Koeman was proper swindled taking Rooney back, he's finished and doesn't even have a position he can play at this level any more.

Appreciate your efforts & hard graft oumar brother but it's not for you. Rooney sitting deep in the number 10 role?? Worrying times for us
— Jack Croft (@JackCroft7) October 29, 2017
We’ve become a club where people want players/managers (Rooney/Unsworth) because they support Everton. It’s absolutely pathetic.

Rooney lost more balls than hair today. Drop him for Watford game. Play Siggy and get Vlasic and Lookman in as well

Rooney is someone who pays for someone to go down but this time Everton are paying him to go down #EFC

Wayne Rooney looked 'svelte' at the start of the season. I guess Colleen's not cooking for him now & he's full of kebab fat! ? #LEIEVE

Rooney may end up scoring 10 goals but he will also Prevent Everton from scoring another 40.

At 32, he’s obviously not the player he once was, but does Wayne Rooney really deserve all of the stick he is currently taking?
What do you think?
