Odds Have Been Slashed on Leo Messi Joining Man City on a Free Transfer

Bookmakers have been forced to slash odds on Leo Messi making a dramatic move to Manchester City in the summer, with his contract still to be renewed at Barcelona.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has become a living legend at the Nou Camp, and,in previous seasons, the mere suggestion that he could leave the Catalan giants would’ve been absolutely laughable.

But Neymar’s decision to join PSG last summer might have given Messi and his camp food for thought and, remarkably, the Argentine superstar can negotiate a free transfer with European clubs from January 1.

In a little over eight weeks, Messi could put pen-to-paper on a contract with any one of the continent’s super powers -leading bookies to slash his odds on joining Man City.

Of course, his mentor Pep Guardiola is in charge at City currently, and Messi would make an eye-watering sum of he was too sign for the Sky Blues, leading Paddy Power to cut their odds from 25/1 to 12/1 in the last 24 hours.

12/1 might still seem like something of a long-shot – but splitting odds in half overnight? That’s a pretty big drop.

And if Messi was staying at Barca, why hasn’t he signed his new deal already? Why is he leaving it so late?
