Arsenal winger Alex Iwobi put his name on the international map this evening by scoring for Nigeria against Argentina – whilst embarrassing Javier Mascherano in the process.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed a quick ascent to stardom since making his Arsenal debut against Everton back in 2015, and is now considered one of African football’s most promising talents.

Iwobi was winning his 13th cap during today’s friendly in Krasnodar but it certainly didn’t prove to be unlucky for him.

It looked to be business as usual for Argentina when Sergio Aguero helped the South Americans into an early two-goal lead, but Nigeria came roaring back in the second-half, with Kelechi Iheanacho scoring a brilliant free-kick.

With the game poised at 3-2 to Nigeria, Iwobi decided to take matters into his own hands, and Mascherano definitely won’t want to see this again any time soon:

Not a bad finish, eh?

He sometimes takes a bit of stick from Arsenal supporters, but Iwobi is undoubtedly a massively talented player.
