Having won 7-0 away to the Slovenian champions two weeks ago, Jurgen Klopp’s men probably went into tonight’s return match at Anfield pretty much expecting to be collecting all three points.
But it didn’t quite go to plan, with Maribor setting up their stall well and refusing to be broken down in the opening 45 minutes.
The score was 0-0 at half-time, and you could feel the tension oozing its way around a nervy Anfield, but it wasn’t too long before Salah made the breakthrough – and his quick thinking was absolutely top class:
That’s the Egyptian’s tenth goal for the Reds since joining in the summer from Roma – and the £35 million fee is looking more like a bargain with every passing match.
