Video: Simon Mignolet Somehow Avoids a Red Card in Stoke v Liverpool Game

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet somehow managed to escape being sent off tonight in the club’s match against Stoke City – despite taking a player clean out when through on goal.

Jurgen Klopp’s men travelled to the Bet365 Stadium knowing they could return to the Premier League’s top-four if results went their way and it wasn’t too long before Sadio Mane’s clever turn and finish had them 1-0 ahead.

All in all, Liverpool dominated the proceedings in the first-half, with Stoke failing to register a shot on target, however, they’ll feel mightily let down by the referee’s decision not to dismiss Mignolet just before the break.

With Mame Diouf bearing down on goal, the Belgian goalkeeper rushes from his line and sweeps the striker’s leg away on the edge of the penalty area – and was promptly shown a yellow card:

It’s worth bearing in mind that if Diouf gets away from Mignolet, he has an empty net to tap the ball into – surely that’s denying a goal-scoring opportunity, no?

He takes a lot of stick from Liverpool fans at times – and he could’ve been in for a lot more had the referee not spared him there.

Do you think it’s a red?
