Aberdeen Refuse Rangers Permission to Speak to Derek McInnes

Aberdeen have refused to allow Rangers permission to speak to Derek McInnes.

The Ibrox club approached their Scottish Premiership rivals for their manager just days after the teams faced off at Pittodrie.

Rangers, under Graeme Murty, may have won that game – following up a midweek victory at Ibrox – but it appears McInnes is the man for Dave King and the board.

Yet they have been dealt a blow in their bid to get McInnes after the Dons announced that they’d rejected the approach.

A statement on afc.co.uk tonight read: “Aberdeen Football Club has announced this evening that Rangers have contacted the Club asking for permission to speak to Derek McInnes and that permission has been refused.”

That’s a setback for Rangers considering their now lengthy search to find a replacement for Pedro Caixinha on a permanent basis.

But is it necessarily the end of the matter? We doubt it. Rangers are likely to go back with another approach and McInnes may have something to say about his club’s decision if he is keen on making the move.

Aberdeen fans – are you confident of keeping McInnes?
