Bakayoko joined Antonio Conte’s side last summer for a whopping fee of around £40 million but he’s yet to quite hit the heights expected of him since replacing Nemanja Matic.
Bakayoko played a massive part in Monaco reaching the Champions League semi-finals last season, but writing in his column for the Evening Standard, Lampard claimed he’ll need to start delivering his top form or risk losing his starting berth to Danny Drinkwater.
The ex-England international said: “Bakayoko has not made enough of an impact in games.
“When you sign for Chelsea, you have to understand that you’re never the only player for a position. There is always someone else knocking on the door.
“The pressure should be coming from within. Chelsea paid Monaco £40million for him – and that brings expectation. He has to live up to that on the pitch.
“At the moment I am looking at Bakayoko and I’m not sure what kind of midfield player he is.”
Few players will command respect amongst Chelsea supporters more than Lampard, but is he right to point out some of the failings in Bakayoko’s game?
Has he been a letdown since arriving in the Premier League? What do you think?
