The Danish centre-back has managed to force his way into Antonio Conte’s starting XI this season, with David Luiz left kicking his heels on the bench – and sometimes not even in the match-day squad at all.
After spending two successful years on loan with Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga, Christensen has continued his development in the Premier League and earned rave reviews for his performances this season, the latest of which came on Saturday against Southampton.
Christensen’s current contract runs out in 2020, but according to the Evening Standard, the 21-year-old will be offered a lucrative new deal until 2022 – and the reaction on social media has been pretty conclusive:
Chelsea are looking to offer Christensen a new contract, the lad deserves it and will become a massive part of our defence in many years to come #CFC

When asked about David Luiz's future at the club, Antonio Conte: “I don't know. Andreas Christensen is the present and the future for Chelsea.” #CFC (Mail)

Apparently Chelsea are holding talks for a contract extension for Christensen? Exactly what we need. We cannot lose the next JT.

With John Terry a thing of the past, and David Luiz on his way out of the club, Chelsea undoubtedly need a new long-term general at the back – so could it be Christensen?
