Josh Meekings Defends Himself Over Online Criticism About Jonny Hayes Tackle

Josh Meekings has defended himself against online criticism about his tackle that injured Jonny Hayes in Celtic‘s win over Dundee.

Both players had to be substituted in the first half of the Boxing Day game at Dens Park after a strong challenge from the Dundee centre back.

Hayes has since been ruled out of action for between four to six months – a devastating blow for the Hoops winger so soon into his career at the club.

And some Celtic fans aren’t happy about that, directing abuse at Meekings for the challenge.

One took particular exception to the former Inverness defender tweeting about the darts last night, telling him that he should be wishing his former teammate well.

But Meekings defended himself against that, confirming he’s already messaged Hayes to wish him well with his recovery:

Fair play to Meekings for contacting Hayes – that should go some way to getting forgiveness for some Celtic fans.

Celtic went on to win the game 2-0 thanks to goals from James Forrest and Leigh Griffiths. And the win took them 11 points clear at the top of the Premiership ahead of last night’s fixtures, which Celtic weren’t involved in.
