The Gers defender had to settle for a place on the bench when Graeme Murty’s team was named for the trip to their Glasgow rivals.
But he was forced on after 18 minutes following the calf injury to Bruno Alves.
And if any fans ever had any worries about Bates then they won’t anymore as he turned in a man of the match display to help Rangers get away with a 0-0 draw.
Some fans are jokingly describing him as the ‘ginger Ramos’ while others believe he would get more credit if he was foreign and not from Fife:
Bates will now expect to retain his place in the team alongside Danny Wilson, but he’ll have a winter break to get through first before they return to action against Fraserburgh in the Scottish Cup.
Rangers fans – how impressed were you with Bates?
