Video: Brendan Rodgers Says Anderlecht Loss is ‘Good Leveller’ For Some Players

Brendan Rodgers says Celtic‘s loss to Anderlecht is a ‘good leveller’ for some players who think they’re good enough to play in the Champions League on a regular basis.

The Hoops manager didn’t appear happy when speaking after his side’s disappointing 1-0 defeat to the Belgians in their final group game of this year’s campaign.

Many expected Celtic to put in a strong performance and get a positive result to secure European football after Christmas.

But they’ve scraped that achievement by losing just 1-0, going through on goal difference.

Rodgers was asked to give his view on the performance and result – failing to hide his disappointment when answering.

And this quote on what he learned about some players is particularly interesting.

Rodgers, per the BT Sport post-match interview, said: “For some of our players, this is a good game for them because some of them maybe think they’re Champions League players.

“So this is a good leveller for some of those guys.”

Here’s Rodgers’ full interview:

It’s not often Rodgers has had to publicly criticise some of his players and, although he doesn’t name any names, it’s interesting to hear he believes some still have a bit to go.

Celtic will go in to Friday’s Europa League last 32 draw hoping for a favourable draw and then set about improving the team ahead of that tie next year.
