Marcos Alonso scored a very nice free-kick to give Chelsea a first-half lead against Southampton.
The Spanish full-back has scored free-kicks for the club before, but he looked like he was set for a watching brief as he stood over one with Willian towards the end of the first half of this afternoon’s game at Stamford Bridge.
That wasn’t the case though, as Willian left the effort to Alonso – and the left-back curled a beautiful strike past Fraser Forster in the Saints goal.
You can watch the free-kick here:
That’s a cracker from Alonso and has Chelsea leading at half-time in their game today.
The Blues currently sit third in the English Premier League table and Antonio Conte has already admitted that their title defence is over.
But Manchester City, who lead Chelsea by 14 points at the top of the table, go into a tough game with Tottenham later so the opportunity is possibly there for Conte’s men to cut the gap.
