Vincent Kompany Says Man City Will Overtake Liverpool as the Team Man United Want to Beat

Ahead of this weekend’s Manchester derby, Vincent Kompany believes Manchester City will eventually overtake Liverpool as the team Manchester United really want to beat.

Pep Guardiola‘s side go into Sunday’s showdown as the Premier League leaders, while United sit eight points adrift in second spot.

And Kompany recognises that this weekend’s match-up means more than any other domestic fixture, to both the fans and the players.

The Belgium skipper admits that United supporters still look toward Liverpool as their main rivals domestically, rather than their geographically closer neighbours.

However, Kompany believes City will eventually overtake the Reds, especially if Guardiola and his City players can continue their fine run of form:

While City travel to Old Trafford in good form domestically, Jose Mourinho’s men will be equally motivated, having dismantled Arsenal at the Emirates last weekend.

Is Kompany right, do United fans still look toward Liverpool as the team they like beating the most?
