Zinedine Zidane Jokes He Was “Obviously” a Better Player Than Cristiano Ronaldo

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has joked he was “obviously” a better player than Cristiano Ronaldo, after the Portuguese received his fifth Ballon d’Or yesterday.

Ronaldo is now level with Lionel Messi in winning the illustrious award on five occasions, with ex-AC Milan midfielder Kaka being the last player outwith the famous duo to lift the trophy.

As you’d expect, with Lionel Messi scoring more goals than CR7 last season, fans immediately questioned the competition’s organisers on social media.

And ahead of this weekend’s highly-anticipated clash against Sevilla, Ronaldo’s triumph was high on the media agenda, with one reporter even asking Zidane if he was a better player than the Portuguese international:

The 45-year-old was quick to back-track, however, as he admitted Ronaldo is “much better”:

Ronaldo’s achievements as a player far outweigh those that Zidane accumulated during his playing days, with the ex-Manchester United star winning two La Liga titles and three Champions Leagues at the Bernabeu.

However, surely some old-school football fans would still foam at the mouth at the prospect of watching Zidane orchestrate a midfield just one more time?
