We’ll never get tired of hearing little anecdotes about Zlatan Ibrahimovic‘s brilliant self-confident remarks but his first-ever comments to the Manchester United kitmen are up there with his best yet.
The Swedish superstar is renowned for his braggadocious self-belief and the men responsible for the strips at Old Trafford found out first-hand just how much of a joker he could be when he first arrived at the Red Devils.
In the newly-released issue of FourFourTwo magazine, via Joe.co.uk, Juan Mata has revealed how Zlatan left the United kitmen shaking in their boots during their first meeting back in the summer of 2016.
The Spaniard explains: “The day he arrived, we were away on pre-season, so he was on his own with the kit men at the training ground.
“They had never met him before and he’s the sort of guy that garners instant respect because of the way he carries himself.
“Zlatan apparently looked the kit men up and down and said: ‘I hope you know God has arrived.’
“The kit men were shaking and didn’t know what to think, then he fell about laughing with them. He always does that.”
Of course, Zlatan went on to score 28 goals last season for United, and looks set to play some part in the club’s showdown with bitter rivals Man City on Sunday afternoon, despite missing last weekend’s win over Arsenal and last night’s Champions League victory over CSKA Moscow.
What do you think of the anecdote?
And is there any footballer in the world at the moment with a bigger personality than Zlatan?
