If our list was based purely on ability and talent, there’s no question that Patrick Roberts would be a lot closer to the top spot than No.19.
A spate of niggling injuries have stopped Roberts from conquering this year’s Mc25 but, that being said, 2017 was still a year where the on-loan Manchester City winger reminded us all once again just how gifted a footballer he is by playing a crucial role in Celtic’s historic 2016/17 campaign.
His pace, trickery and masterly play throughout the past calendar year has turned Roberts into a genuine cult icon amongst the Hoops faithful, and even saw him inherit the club’s legendary No.7 shirt.
When you watch him play, it’s hard to believe he’s still only 20-years-old. If Celtic can hold onto him somehow for next season, we fully expect a much higher placing for Roberts in 2018.
What They Said
“Absolutely unplayable in the early part of the year and a key component in the attacking prowess of the treble invincibles. Questions were asked about the wisdom of his move back to Premiership level in the summer and although injuries have played their part, the doubters look to have been right. Still a player of immense talent whose trickery can change a game in an instant though may go on to have a bigger impact in the second half of the season.”
