The England international was once the Reds’ main striker, and formed a formidable partnership with Luis Suarez during the 2013/14 season, but things have definitely gone downhill since Jurgen Klopp arrived at the club in 2015.
The German seems intent on playing with Roberto Firmino as his primary forward, and Sturridge certainly hasn’t been helped by his long list on injuries.
Still only 28, Sturridge was linked with Newcastle earlier this month, with the Magpies in desperate need of a new goalscorer, but according to Sky Sports, Sturridge has had a medical at West Brom ahead of joining Alan Pardew’s side until the end of the season.
As you can imagine, the Toon Army are more than just a little bit dejected by the nature of the knock-back:
Pathetic that we've been beaten to Sturridge's signature by West Brom. #NUFC

When Sturridge scores 10 in 12 games at WBA I am going to lose it

We only made an “enquiry “ about Sturridge the idea that we were in talks with him or he chose West Brom over us is a lie would love to know how much we’ve bid for Jorgensen aswell if at all a familiar but no less depressing turn of events #nufc#ashleyout

Sturridge not coming to Newcastle ‘for family reasons’ is the biggest pile of horseshit I’ve ever seen man! Takes a couple hours on the train and be up here for 4 months! Absolutely stinks of #NUFC not paying fees or wages! Joke club.

Sturridge turning down Newcastle for West Brom just sums up North East football.

Checked Twitter for first time today; NUFC enquire about Daniel Sturridge. 2 mins later: Daniel Sturridge joins WBA on loan.
We are fucked.

Glad I was busy today so I couldn't be too disappointed by our failure with Sturridge today. Wanna save my disappointment for deadline day. #nufc

What do you think of Sturridge’s decision? Does picking West Brom ahead of Newcastle show just how far they’ve fallen in terms of stature?
