Slaven Bilic could emerge as a contender to be the next Scotland manager thanks to a campaign from supporters.
The Croatian manager appeared on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football coverage of Liverpool against Swansea last night and provided a welcome reminder of all that is good about him.
It wasn’t long ago that intense pressure saw West Ham sack him and replace him with David Moyes in the job.
But last night he spoke very well about the game, while analysing Swansea’s shock 1-0 victory over Liverpool.
Bilic is available, with a good reputation, and, most importantly, has international experience from his time managing Croatia between 2006 and 2012.
And with an apparent lack of jobs available to the Croatian gaffer, some Scotland fans believe he could be the right man to lead the Tartan Army.
The SFA were yesterday dealt a big blow with Michael O’Neill rejecting the chance to become the new national team boss.
But Bilic is the better option for some anyway:
Probably not everyone’s first choice but look at what Steve Clarke is doing at Kilmarnock. Perhaps look at him for the Scotland job? If we went foreign then maybe Slavan Bilic? @ScottishFA

If Lennon becomes Scotland manager I’m turning English. Steve Clarke or show ambition and go for Bilic.

Slaven bilic for Scotland manager!

Slaven Bilic has to be a shout for the Scotland job now O’Neill has turned it down, decent track record and a 64% win rate for Croatia.
Not going to find much better out there and he’s got a point to prove pic.twitter.com/pnaM49h7RI

Slaven Bilic for Scotland manager please
— Jonathon Rafferty (@J_Rafferty5) January 22, 2018
Would take slaven bilic as the next scotland manager. Understand he’s not everyones cup of tea but considering our options, he’s the only one i feel could do a half decent job.

1. I don’t know why Scotland fans are panicking because we didn’t get Michael O’Neil as our next manager. There are plenty of very good candidates out there that could be tempted by our available squad. Alcelotti, Hughes, Blanc, Koeman, Bilic, and plenty of managers in the SPFL!

Scotland could do worse than appoint Slaven Bilic.
— Cathcart Boy (@cathcartboy) January 22, 2018
ok we need to get someone decent for the scotland job…someone who did
well in international football management and is oot a job.step foward Slaven Bilic…….

Has to be Slaven Bilic for Scotland. 7 years as Croatian national manager with a very good record
— Cozie Thom (@Cozmiester) January 22, 2018
Slavan Bilic should be considered for the #Scotland job as an overdue thank you for the greatest game I ever saw, when a Croatia with nothing to play for pumped England 3-2 at Wembley to stop them going to Euro 2008. And for the fact he plays guitar in a rock band called Rawbau.

Slaven bilic for Scotland job
— Ross Hampson (@Ross__91) January 22, 2018
With O' Neill out, how about Slaven Bilic for a different option for Scotland manager?

Would you take charge of Scotland and take us to the Euro’s if asked Slaven Bilic @SkySportsMNF
— Kevin Fotheringham (@SquidwardKevin) January 22, 2018
Get bilic in for Scotland
— andrew (@wembley67lisbon) January 22, 2018
Only 2 candidates – 1. Alex McLeish or 2. Shaven Bilic.
Bilic for me would be a perfect fit for Scotland and available

Bilic was on my Scotland managers list from the start. Hope he’s next on the @ScottishFA one.

SFA shambolic, go for a good manager in Slaven Bilic
— Alan Norrie (@ADNorrie1) January 23, 2018
Not sure how good that looks on @StewartMRegan's resume when the organisation that he runs,,@sfa can't compete financially with Norn Iron. They could surprise us all though and appoint Slavin Bilic but we all know it'll be Big Eck.
— Kevin Gavigan (@kjgavigan) January 22, 2018
Hopefully the SFA don’t fall back on Malky Mackay. They can afford a Bielsa or a Bilic. Matjaz Ken would surely be a live call given he looks like he’s wrapping up at Rijeka.
— Richard Wilson (@timomouse) January 22, 2018
Clarke or Bilic are the 2 obvious names for me. Clarke is a great man manager, Bilic did well with Croatia. But surely the SFA will have a list of available coaches. Hiddink, Lagerback etc
— Dave Macdonald (@hammer_saint) January 22, 2018
Should give the SFA a flying start on their new list for potential managers
— Stewart Weir (@sweirz) January 22, 2018
Given the O’Neill news, you’d expect the SFA will move quickly to approach another manager – but it doesn’t bode well that they seem to have missed out on their top target.
Scotland, obviously, aren’t involved in the summer’s World Cup, but do have a friendly against Costa Rica in March and you’d expect a new manager will be in place by then.
