Stoke City have finally appointed a new manager this afternoon, with Paul Lambert taking the reins on a two-and-a-half year contract – but it seems very few of the club’s supporters are pleased with the choice made.
Having sacked Mark Hughes earlier this month, Stoke were linked strongly with a whole host of candidates, including current Espanyol manager Quique Sánchez Flores and Republic of Ireland boss Martin O’Neill.
However, it neither of the club’s apparent first-choices wanted the gig, leaving Chairman Peter Coates frantically searching through his contacts book.
Stoke’s official Twitter account confirmed Lambert’s appointment earlier today but a mere glance at the responses shows just how furious some fans are with the decision:
I’ve been a supporter and season ticket holder at Stoke now for 30 years and I can safely say this is the final straw! Ticket in the bin for good now, I am absolutely disgusted with OUR football club #scfc

The Potters are currently 18th and in the Premier League’s relegation zone going into tonight’s match at Old Trafford against Manchester United.
Getting a point at the Theatre of Dreams in his first match? Now that would definitely help Lambert’s reputation no end!
