Greg Docherty plans to become a better player than Hamilton youth products James McCarthy and James McArthur, following his move to Rangers last night.
Everton star McCarthy and Crystal Palace midfielder McArthur both started their careers at New Douglas Park before making moves down south and becoming full internationals for Ireland and Scotland, respectively.
And while Docherty admits that the standards set by the two James’ are used as examples to Accies players, he wants to better the duo in the Light Blue jersey.
Docherty’s comments come after Hamilton boss Martin Canning told reporters earlier this week that he rates Rangers’ newest recruit as highly as both McArthur and McCarthy.
Meanwhile, the 21-year-old insists it “doesn’t come bigger in Scotland” than playing for Rangers ahead of this weekend’s clash with Ross County… and that he’s looking to push on after penning a four and a half-year deal.

With Rangers seemingly stacked with midfield options following a busy January window for Graeme Murty, Docherty may have to show patience in winning a first-team spot this season.
However, with 84 games under his belt at former side Hamilton, he has plenty of experience to fall back on should he get the nod.
