Alexandre Lacazette – who cost £50 million last summer – was expected to start up-front against Swedish side Ostersunds in the last-32 first-leg on Thursday night, but earlier today the club revealed he’s had to undergo surgery and will be missing for around six weeks.
Given that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is cup tied for the clash, and Olivier Giroud has been sold to Chelsea, that means Arsene Wenger only has Welbeck to call upon as his senior striker – and to say Gooners are underwhelmed is a bit of an understatement:
I see alot of 'fans' happy that Lacazette is injured and now have started slating Welbeck who was very good towards the end of last season the FA Cup final and the beginning of this season. Absolute Bellends

Lacazette is injured for 6 weeks… I bet all those people crucifying him on social media are really happy that Welbeck is the striker upon whom all of Arsenal's season now rests…

Think of all the Arsenal 'fans' who trashed Lacazette for missing an easy chance and burned his shirt. Now hes injured and guess whos starting in Europa? WELBECK. I hope youre happy.

So Lacazette is out, Giroud was sold to Chelsea and Auba can't play in Europe.
But, it's ok chaps, we've Welbeck.
I swear this club is slowly sending me mental.
Wtf are they doing..?

Lacazette is out injured for 6 weeks, Auba is ineligible for the Europe League, so that means we have to rely on Danny Welbeck up front, give me strength ??
— King FB ?? (@KingFB_) February 13, 2018
Fuck playing welbeck up top in Europa. Give that young Eddie a chance, can’t do no worse than Danny welbeck.
— Clinton “RASH” Malcolm (@Clinton_CMJM) February 13, 2018
Danny Welbeck’s knees on a frozen pitch in Sweden is a recipe for disaster.
— Bhavin (@bhbavalia) February 13, 2018
Welbeck fucking plays like bambi on ice. We'll literally get to see that this Thursday.
English Mbappe needed. #Nketiah
— Römeo (@Arsenal490304) February 13, 2018
LOOOOOL WELBECK IS OUR ONLY STRIKER AVAILABLE IN THE EUROPA LEAGUE LMAOOO
— . (@Saaaaaaan2) February 13, 2018
Danny Welbeck couldn't finish in a brothel nevermind a European match.
— Mr FT (@Gooner_Man) February 13, 2018
In fairness to the fans, Welbeck has mustered just five goals from 23 appearances this season, so despite his troubles, the sooner Lacazette can get back to full fitness the better.
What do you think of the reaction to Welbeck’s new promotion to first-choice striker?
