BBC reporter Simon Stone has confirmed Leicester City pushed for Patrick Roberts to be included as part of the deal to take Riyad Mahrez to Manchester City… leaving Celtic fans relieved that the move failed to materialise.
Roberts is currently on a second loan-spell at Celtic, having played a major role in the club’s invincible campaign last season.
However, with Pep Guardiola attempting to sign Foxes winger Mahrez in the dying hours of the January transfer window, Leicester desperately tried to shoe-horn Roberts into the deal.
Stone elaborated via his Twitter account, that the winger was to be part of a “£95 million” package for the Algeria international, but Guardiola refused to play ball:
Re Mahrez. The '£95m total package' included Patrick Roberts, who Leicester were keen on. In the end they would have accepted £80m but this was still more than @ManCity were prepared to pay.

Needless to say, with Roberts proving himself as a fan-favourite at Celtic Park and with many Hoops fans holding out hope of signing him permanently in the summer, the news was warmly welcomed on social media:
Fs imagine that. Deadline day and Roberts gets ripped off us

'IF' Roberts was offered as part of the Mahrez deal, then there should be absolutely no obstacles in signing him this summer now.

Depending on which report you read. Some say Leicester asked for him others say city offered him. Either way thank god it didn’t happen

Roberts has struggled with a hamstring injury so far this campaign, with Brendan Rodgers claiming in early December that the 20-year-old could face an extended spell on the sidelines.
Despite his fitness concerns are you happy that City refused to allow Roberts to go to the King Power, Celtic fans?
