Chelsea Fans Are Demanding Cesar Azpilicueta is Made the Club’s New Captain

Chelsea supporters are demanding that Cesar Azpilicueta is handed the captain’s armband instead of Gary Cahill, with the Spaniard easily one of the Blues’ most popular players in recent times.

After the departure of club legend John Terry last summer, Antonio Conte decided to hand Cahill the honour of skippering the Premier League champions this season, given he’s been at Stamford Bridge since 2012.

But his performances of late have been pretty poor, particularly in the recent defeats to Bournemouth and Watford, and it looks like his spell as captain could well be over.

Azpilicueta has been the model of consistency in his six years at Chelsea, and has excelled playing in either full-back role, as well as centre-back.

It seems a campaign to see Cesar properly recognised is well and truly underway on Twitter:

What do you think of the calls? Should Azpilicueta be the new captain?
