Ex-Celtic striker Chris Sutton believes his former side have gone backwards under Brendan Rodgers this season, following Thursday night’s Europa League thrashing at the hands of Zenit St Petersburg.
The Hoops had collected a memorable victory over the Russian giants during the first-leg at Celtic Park, with Callum McGregor’s goal securing a 1-0 victory.
However, the Scottish champions were out-performed and out-classed during the second-leg, with Roberto Mancini’s team inflicting a painful 3-0 defeat.
And while Rodgers lead the club to a historic domestic treble without losing a single game, Sutton believes Celtic have gone backwards in Europe this season.
Speaking during an appearance on BT Sport Score, Sutton mentioned how unhappy the Celtic fans were after their team’s performance in St Petersburg:
"They have gone backwards in Europe under Brendan Rodgers…"
"The fans were seriously, seriously, unhappy!"

Have Celtic regressed in terms of their performances in European competition?
Or do pundits like Sutton now have unrealistic expectations from Celtic given their astonishing achievements in the previous campaign?
